Dorit Saphir
Out of the Black
Animals in movement and figures in dialogue or engaged in a struggle emerge out of the black paper, resonating ancient mythical images in expressive line and color. Birds are painted in close-up on the ground, diving from above, and the black background and margins of the paper, which are left untouched, serve as a dramatic décor for the subject of the painting. This small-format series capture many perspectives: overview, flattening, close-up, and three dimensional.
