Dorit Saphir
Dorit Saphir
Painting, architecture, literature, cinema and theater – a broad range of cultural and artistic tools – serve Dorit Sapir as a contextual-visual palette for her work. Her academic education – she studied architecture at the Milan Polytechnic and the Technion in Haifa, and cinema and television at the University of Tel Aviv – together with her experience as a documentary scriptwriter and director who has worked in Israeli television productions, have given her a broad base to venture into the field of fantasy.
Like in a cinematic frame, her figures peak out from the black background of her early works that deal with heroes and anti-heroes, and with mythical creatures. Other paintings, from her series “Haiku poems” are characterized by a reduced line and composition. Her later works, such as “Man and View” are rapid ink sketches on small format paper that try to capture and condense impressions from intimate interactions between figures.
Dorit has exhibited her works at individual and group exhibitions in Israel and overseas.
